Biographical Information

Christina Steffen, flutist, has appeared as a soloist and with many chamber ensembles. She has performed at the Abiquiu Chamber Music Festival, Red Rocks Music Festival, AZ MusicFest, Phoenix Art Museum, Glendale Library, Tubac Center for the Arts, the Scottsdale Arts Festival, Arizona State University, Arts Midwest and in the Los Angeles area. She has performed with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, many free-lance ensembles, and at music festivals in Switzerland and England.

Christina also regularly performs for entertainer acts and National Broadway tours. Memorable highlights include playing for Bernadette Peters, Natalie Cole, Rita Moreno, the Temptations, Marvin Hamlisch, Michael Feinstein, Paul Potts, Michael Cavanaugh (Billy Joel's Movin' Out), the tours of Wicked, The Producers, Elton John’s Aida, Annie, and A Chorus Line. Recent commercial recordings have been new music for the PBS show, Horizon, a promotional video for the United Way, a children’s CD of popular classical selections, commercials for Del Webb, SRP, First Things First and other CD projects.

She is a member of Paradisa!, a flute/cello/piano trio that was recently featured on the cover of Kudos magazine and in the Arizona Republic. Their first CD will be released in 2009 (paradisa.net and myspace.com/paradisatrio) She also performs with the popular Bella Dolce flute & harp duo, has been on the Performing Artist's Roster for the Arizona Commission on the Arts, currently serves on the board of the Arizona Flute Society and was instrumental in establishing the AFS Flute Camp.  Ms. Steffen received her Bachelor’s and Master's degrees in flute performance from the University of Arizona School of Music. In addition to performing, Christina teaches flute to music majors at Mesa Community College, Paradise Valley Community College and Scottsdale Community College. She also coaches chamber ensembles, conducts the PVCC Flute Ensemble, and is the artistic director of the MCC Desert Echoes Flute Project, a flute orchestra, which was invited to perform at the National Flute Association’s annual conference (myspace.com/thedefproject).

Ms. Steffen also teaches college courses in Music of World Cultures and Jazz History at PVCC and Woodwind Methods at MCC.
